BNB, originally introduced as Binance Coin, is Binance's native cryptocurrency. By permanently removing portions of the asset from circulation, Binance mitigates inflation. At present, there are 145,887,575.79 BNB in circulation. It runs parallel to the BNB Beacon Chain, which handles Binance’s governance and staking. BSC supports Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), allowing developers to deploy Ethereum-based dApps with lower fees. It uses a Proof of Staked Authority (PoSA) consensus mechanism, combining staking with delegated authority for faster transactions and reduced costs compared to Ethereum.

Is BEP-20 the same as BNB?

No, but they are related. BEP-20 is a token standard on BNB Smart Chain, similar to Ethereum’s ERC-20 standard. Digital assets following the BEP-20 standard run on BSC but are separate from BNB itself.
