The short version

Nexo works with institutional-grade custody and infrastructure partners, selected region by region in line with local regulatory frameworks, including Fireblocks globally, Bakkt in the United States, and Tangany in the European Economic Area (EEA).

How your digital assets are held matters as much as what you do with them. Since 2018, Nexo has processed over $465 billion in transactions and collateralized credit, and today manages more than $7 billion in client assets across 200+ jurisdictions.

At that scale, custody is about more than storage. It's about the right partner in the right market. This article walks you through Nexo's setup: who our partners are, the regions they cover, and how they deliver best-in-class services to your Nexo account.

How custody works on Nexo.

Nexo combines a single, easy-to-use platform with institutional-grade custody partners. Assets are managed by institutions whose core business is digital asset custody, while your Nexo account brings everything together, so you can view and use your holdings in one place.

Assets are spread across several custodians and held in a mix of hot and cold storage in different locations. Spreading assets across providers and storage types adds resilience while keeping them available when you need them.

Why does Nexo work with custodians?

Storing digital assets is a specialized discipline, and custodians exist to fulfill this exact need. Nexo works with institutions whose core business is holding digital assets. That is what makes this model beneficial for clients: their assets are held by specialists in custody.

Why is Nexo’s custody set up by region?

Nexo pairs its global platform with partners established in each market, operating under that market's rules. For clients, the experience stays the same: one account, one interface. Behind the scenes, the core infrastructure is the same, and what differs is how each region is set up locally.
