BTC: Key support doing its job?

On the weekly chart, price has pulled back to the 50-period SMA, which could act as dynamic support. The middle Bollinger Band, a volatility-based indicator, is also nearby and will be a key test before any further decline. The RSI, a momentum oscillator, and the Stochastic, another momentum oscillator, are both falling but remain in neutral territory, while the MACD, a trend and momentum indicator, has its histogram approaching the zero line.

On the daily chart, price is hovering near the lower Bollinger Band and testing the 100-period SMA. The RSI is at very low levels and still falling, while the Stochastic is in oversold territory. The MACD histogram is deep in negative territory.

Key levels to watch: on the downside, immediate support sits around $76,000, with the next level near $73,000 — the weekly 50-period SMA and the daily 100-period SMA could also act as dynamic support. To the upside, resistance comes in around $79,000, followed by $82,000.

The big idea

Crypto industry's maturity and Bitcoin's coming of age

Maturity and trust across an industry are rarely announced. They only become visible when the pressure arrives, and the system holds. Last week, the digital asset space showed what maturity across the board looks like – security controls tested through every cycle, assets with institutional-grade custodians, and independent certifications.

The timing of events was also telling: just two days after the incident, Bitcoin’s whitepaper turned 18. Published in the depths of the 2008 financial crisis, it described a network built to keep running. Eighteen marks a coming of age in much of the world, and the industry reached it this week, having successfully weathered a major incident in the space together. The market also appears markedly harder to knock off course than it once was.

Thanks to these controls from digital asset companies, the wider market kept its footing: Bitcoin briefly fell toward $76,400 on Friday, then steadied and closed the week around 3% lower, with most of the impact felt in leveraged positions rather than across the wider market.

That robustness is built on the infrastructure behind each platform and also on habits at the user level. For Nexo clients, a few simple steps add another layer of security and protection: use an authenticator app rather than SMS, whitelist your withdrawal addresses, set up your anti-phishing code, and keep real-time transaction notifications switched on. Supported by its extensive security systems, Nexo continues to operate normally, as always.

Last week showed that eighteen years on, the industry has matured and security is judged not by whether incidents occur but by how fast companies respond and work together to protect clients.

AI stocks catch their breath

If crypto had an intense week, it was in company: tech stocks had one too. Most of the movement landed on Friday, when the Nasdaq fell nearly 3%, leaving it about 2% lower on the week, while the S&P 500 slipped about 0.6% and the Dow about 0.9%. Alphabet had its worst day on record and Intel its worst since the 1980s, as investors asked when the AI build-out will pay back. October as a whole was lopsided: the Nasdaq lost about 5%, the S&P 500 under 1%, and the Dow gained 1.7%. Early Monday, futures pointed higher as tech steadied, with Nasdaq-100 futures up about 0.9% and S&P 500 and Dow futures up about 0.5%.

Macroeconomic roundup

Beyond payrolls: what else could move markets

Last week’s data was steady: core PCE matched forecasts and third-quarter GDP grew 3.4%, above the 3.2% expected. The Fed held rates, with two officials voting for a hike, so Friday’s jobs report is the week’s main test of its path. US services data, the Bank of England and ECB President Lagarde also land before it.

ADP and ISM services (Wednesday): ADP is forecast at 70,000 jobs, ISM services at 54.5. Firm readings would support the case for a December Fed hike.

Bank of England (Thursday): Expected to raise Bank Rate to 4.00% from 3.75%. A hawkish vote split would reinforce the global push toward higher rates.

Jobless claims (Thursday): Claims were 194,000 last week, near multi-decade lows. Another low print says the labor market gives the Fed no reason to ease.

Lagarde (Thursday): ECB President Lagarde speaks in the evening. A hawkish tone would extend the tightening theme beyond the US and UK.

Jobs report (Friday): Payrolls are forecast at about 55,000, after 29,000 in September. A stronger print strengthens the case for a December hike; a weaker one weakens it.

The common thread is rates. Firm data and hawkish central banks keep them higher for longer, while softer numbers would ease that pressure.

The week's most interesting data story

Two days below: Bitcoin’s resilience test

Last week showed how resilient Bitcoin has become. Even after last week’s news, it spent just two days below the True Market Mean, the average price investors paid for their Bitcoin, and by less than 1%. By Sunday it was back above, per Glassnode. That matters because the line has long been a test. When Bitcoin trades below it, the typical investor is sitting on a loss, and rallies often stall as people sell to get their money back. For most of 2026, Bitcoin stayed below it: 184 of 202 days between January 31 and August 20. Since August 21, it has been above on all but six of 73 days, never dipping more than 1.4% below.

The cushion is thin, with Sunday’s close only 0.7% above the line, so it is worth watching whether Bitcoin keeps holding it.
