ADA reached an all-time high of $3.09 on September 2, 2021. The price subsequently declined alongside the broader crypto market through 2022, falling below $0.30. As of early 2026, ADA trades approximately 80–90% below its all-time high. Key milestones since the ATH include the rollout of smart contract functionality (Alonzo upgrade, September 2021), the launch of on-chain governance (Voltaire era), and the filing of multiple Cardano ETF applications. Cryptocurrency prices are highly volatile, and past price levels are not indicative of future performance.
Cardano has a maximum supply of 45 billion ADA — a hard cap that cannot be changed, similar in concept to Bitcoin's 21 million limit. Approximately 36.6 billion ADA are currently in circulation. New ADA enters circulation through staking rewards, distributed from a finite reserve pool that diminishes over time as it is paid out to stakers. Roughly 60–65% of circulating ADA is staked at any given time, which effectively reduces the supply available for trading on exchanges. This high staking participation rate means that ADA's market capitalization is calculated on the full circulating supply, but the tradeable float is significantly smaller.
Cardano's price is shaped by a combination of factors, including overall cryptocurrency market conditions, Bitcoin's price movements, progress on Cardano ETF applications and regulatory developments, the proportion of ADA locked in staking (which reduces circulating float), network development milestones and protocol upgrades, DeFi activity and total value locked on the Cardano blockchain, treasury governance decisions by ADA holders, and broader macroeconomic conditions such as interest rates and global risk sentiment. Like all cryptocurrencies, ADA is subject to significant price volatility. The factors listed above are for informational context only and should not be interpreted as price predictions.
