The inaugural Nexo Championship at Trump International Golf Links in Scotland is over and it’s fair to say it surpassed all expectations. Not only did the weather hold up but more importantly so did the golf, with winner Grant Forrest earning a course record bonus and congratulatory call from the U.S. President himself.
Scotsman Grant Forrest was delighted to win on home soil at the Nexo-sponsored championship which forms part of the DP World Tour. The event marked the first time the tour had visited Trump International Golf Links and the caliber of golf didn’t disappoint as Grant Forrest walked away with the $10,000 Course Record Presented by Nexo prize.
Forrest secures presidential seal of approval
Grant Forrest had to fight off strong competition from South Africa’s Richard Sterne to walk away with the top prize at the Nexo Championship which teed off on August 8 at Trump International Golf Links in the north-east of Scotland. He got off to a flyer, however, finishing the day one shot ahead after hitting a six-under round of 66 – a score that no one else was able to beat for the remainder of the competition. In the process, Forrest claimed several firsts to his name, the first course record in the DP World Tour event being accompanied by the first award of digital tokens over and above his $10,000 bonus. Forrest received $50,000 in $NEXO Tokens, taking his total bonus winnings to $60,000.
To crown his achievement, Grant Forrest then took a video call from U.S. President and course owner Donald Trump, who congratulated him on his success. The President also invited him to come and play a round at Trump National Golf Club in Washington D.C., whose course he was playing at that exact moment, and praised Forrest’s incredible golf swing. It was a highlight in a weekend filled with highlights for Grant Forrest, over and above the prize money he scooped for winning the inaugural championship.
$500,000 payday at the Nexo Championship
Going into the final round at the Nexo Championship with a three-shot lead, Grant Forrest held his nerve and finished the tournament with an impressive four-shot victory. This feat, which secured $467,500 in prize money, took his total winnings to over $500K. While his course record at Trump International Golf Links is safe for now, there are plenty more events in the DP World Tour to come, which means plenty more opportunities for participants to compete for the Course Record Award Presented by Nexo.
Next up is the Danish Golf Championship, but the Nexo-sponsored Course Record Award will run right through till the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. Then, next year, it will begin all over again. We’re delighted to have been able to put our name to the DP World Tour and for the inaugural tournament to have proven such a memorable event, earning the approval of everyone from the spectators at the spectacular links course to President Trump.
The outstanding performance by Grant Forrest reflects everything that the game – and our vision – stands for: perseverance, dedication, and commitment to excellence. Here’s to many more memorable moments and record scores to come.
