It’s an ERC-20 token that node operators use to participate in the network, providing accurate, tamper-proof data, and securing Chainlink’s decentralized oracle network through staking. LINK plays a critical role in DeFi, where smart contracts need real-time market prices to function. Without Chainlink's secure data feeds, lending platforms like Aave, decentralized exchanges like Synthetix, and stablecoins would be at risk of using faulty or manipulated data. Major companies like FedEx, AccuWeather, and the Associated Press use Chainlink’s oracles to bring trusted data on-chain. Instead of relying on a single data provider, Chainlink’s decentralized network of oracles ensures the most accurate information. Node operators stake LINK as collateral. If they manipulate data, they lose their stake. Chainlink's governance is community-driven, with ongoing efforts to enhance governance mechanisms. With LINK staking, node operators can help secure the network and earn rewards, while other LINK holders can also participate in staking through delegation.
